On February 1, Ambassador dr Marina Jovićević had a zoom meeting with the Speaker of the Belgian Senate, Ms. Stephanie D’Hose. Given the current challenges related to the Covid-19 pandemic and the vaccination process, special attention has been paid to this topic. Ambassador Jovićević informed the President of the Senate about the successful start of mass vaccination in Serbia, within which over half a million people have been vaccinated so far.

The approach to the treatment of Covid-19, has also been discussed, including the economic consequences of the health crisis. With that regard, the ambassador informed about favorable economic results of Serbia in relation to the Eurozone, thanks to the balanced approach between economic and epidemiological measures in Serbia. Ambassador also informed the Speaker about two newly constructed hospitals for the treatment of patients with Covid-19.

The process of European integration of Serbia and the challenges along the way have also been discussed. Ambassador Jovićević expressed the expectation that new methodology will be applied sooner than later, and that Serbia will continue its negotiations with the EU at a more intensive pace this year, pledging for Belgian support.

Last but not least, it was discussed about the possibility to organize a meeting at the bilateral parliamentary level once the epidemiological situation would allow.
