The celebration of the jubilee of 800 years of the Autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church was organized at the Serbian Orthodox Church in Brussels, on December 1 2019, by the Diocese of the Western European Orthodox Church and the Saint Sava Parish in Brussels. After the liturgy attended by over 100 people, the priest Milan Zivanovic from Antwerp and Ambassador Marina Jovicevic addressed the audience. Ambassador Jovicevic said that the establishment of the Independent Serbian Archdiocese, which occurred during 1219, with the primary efforts of its founders - the archbishop St Sava and his brother King Stefan the Firstborn represented a first-rate significant historical event whose positive consequences have been felt in all the past centuries. She emphasized her satisfaction that this significant anniversary of the Serbian Orthodox Church, in addition to commemoration in the Republic of Serbia, in the Žiča monastery and at the Academy "Saint Sava's Testament" under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Serbia, is also celebrated in the Church of St. Sava in Brussels. After the introductory speeches, professor Radomir Popovic, a theologian and professor of Christian history at the Faculty of Theology in Belgrade, spoke about the role and importance of Saint Sava for the independence of the Serbian Church. The folklore ensemble from Antwerp and pianist Selena Trifunovic performed in the art program, followed by a cocktail.
