The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Serbia in Flanders, Alexander Davidovic, was awarded with royal decoration of the Order of Leopold at the ceremony held on September 25, 2019 in Kontich, Antwerp, upon the decree of the Belgian King Philip. It is the highest Belgian decoration for merit in bringing the peoples and institutions of the Kingdom of Belgium and the Republic of Serbia closer, thus having the Honorary Consul Alexander Davidovic as the first Serb to be awarded the Knight of Leopold decoration. Mr. Davidovic received the decoration from Prof. Dr. Ir. Derrick Gosselin, Advisor to the King of Belgium, Honorary Chief of Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Flanders and Professor at Oxford University. Mr. Koen Metsu, MP in the Belgian Parliament, Co-Chair of the Committee on Internal Affairs and Mayor of Edegem introduced to the present high level officials the engagement of Aleksandar Davidovic, emphesizing his commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two countries and to accelerating European integration of the Republic of Serbia. The honorary consul was also handed a saber, symbolizing the Order of the Knights of Leopold. The ceremony was also attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom of Belgium, Dr Marina Jovićević.
