The city of Liège and Association "King Albert I" organized the Commemoration Ceremony in memory of King Albert I and other deceased members of the Belgian royal family.

The ceremony of laying wreaths at the Esplanade of King Albert I in Liège was attended by representatives of the embassies of France, the Russian Federation, the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Poland, Romania and the Republic of Serbia, as well as the associations of war veterans: the European Confederation of Veterans, National Federation of Veterans, Veterans and Supporters of King Albert I, King's fraternity of the Garrison of the Liege fortress and others.

In hеr speech, the president of the Association of 'King Albert I" Ms. Christelle KLEPPER-CAILLET, highlighted the contribution of King Albert I, who ruled from 1909 to 1934, to the development of the Belgian Society by introducing universal suffrage, the establishment of the National Fund for Scientific Research and the Royal Academy of French Language and Literature, the introduction of the eight-hour working week, permitting workers' association and the expansion of social legislation. King Albert I led the Belgian army in exile during the First World War and supported the troops in the liberation of the country from German occupation.

On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Belgium at the ceremony of laying wreaths took part Minister Counselor Irena Banovčanin.

After laying wreaths, the anthem of the Kingdom of Belgium was solemnly intoned, then Governor of Liege held a reception in the Provincial Palace.
